A. For Citizens & Public Users

Account details (Name, Phone Number, Email address).
Location data (to help find nearby advocates or relevant state rules, with your consent).
Inquiries, legal topic searches, or service requests.
Device information and app usage logs.

B. For Advocates & Legal Practitioners

Full name, professional profile picture, and contact information.
Enrollment details (State Bar Council Enrollment Number, Bar ID verification).
Areas of practice, court practice locations, and professional background.
Direct communication records initiated by prospective clients.

C. For Law Students & Aspirants

Educational institution details, law course/exam preparation preferences (LLB, UPSC, etc.).
Quiz participation, mock test performance, and saved study notes.
Enrolled legal courses and progress records.

2. How We Use Your Data (Purpose of Processing)

Under the DPDP Act 2023, personal data is processed strictly for specified, lawful purposes:

3. Legal Professional Privilege & BCI Rules

No Lawyer-Client Relationship: Browsing information or using automated tools on TapVakil does not automatically create an advocate-client relationship. An advocate-client relationship is established only when you enter a direct agreement with a practicing lawyer.

Bar Council of India (BCI) Rules: Advocate profile listings on TapVakil are designed purely for informational and legal awareness purposes. They do not constitute advertising, solicitation, or inducement as prohibited under Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules.

4. Your Data Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

As a "Data Principal" under Indian law, you hold explicit rights regarding your personal information:

Right to Access:

Request a summary of personal data being processed by us.

Right to Correction & Erasure:

Correct inaccurate data or request total deletion of your account/data.

Right to Withdraw Consent:

Withdraw your consent for processing data at any time via settings.

Right to Nominate:

Nominate an individual to exercise rights in case of incapacity or death.

All data collected by TapVakils is stored on secure, encrypted cloud servers located physically within India, adhering to strict data localization principles. We implement industry-standard AES-256 encryption for data at rest and TLS 1.3 for data in transit.
